GOLD IN SCOR

Scór na nÓg

Last Saturday morning, excitement was building from the early hours, as our 2 boys Darragh and Matthew were preparing for their performances in the county final of Scór na nÓg. As they left for Pallasgreen they were met by loyal supporters flying the black & white, wishing them the very best in their respective competitions on the day. Darragh recited the "Railway Lines to Ardagh" by Paddy Faley in the Recitation event (Aithriseoreacht) and Matthew sang "Grace" in the Singing event (Amhránaiocht). Both boys gave A1 performances of which they can be very proud. Competition was very high and even more so when we realised it was a winner takes all, there were no placings.

There were nail biting moments when time came for the winners to be announced. After a drum roll .... the winner of Aithriseoreacht is ......."An Caislean Nua Thiar", the whoops of joy were a delight to behold. Well done Darragh and well deserved. Matthew did exceptionally well on the day was the general feeling in Pallasgreen. Well done Matthew.

This is a fantastic achievement for the club as it was our first foray into competition in many many years. We are truly proud of both our boys Darragh and Matthew, as we say "it's not about winning, it about taking part and enjoying yourselves" and this the boys did in earnest. These boys have the makings of future careers on the stage.

As a club we would like to thank Darragh, Matthew and their families for agreeing to let the boys take part. The Courtenay Boy's National School for their input in preparing the boys and last but not least Annette O'Donnell who put her heart and soul into the competition and made sure the boys were well looked after on Saturday.

Darragh will now go on to represent Newcastle West GAA in the Munster Scór na nÓg Final in Cashel on April 3rd. Comhghairdeas ó chroí Darragh agus go n-éirí an t-ádh leat!!
